Artists, Innovators & Makers Guidelines


Upcycle Oregon is a celebration promoting creative reuse through art, fashion and hands-on learning experiences. It features an Artist’s Upcycle Marketplace with products made from reused materials, the Upcycle Oregon Exhibition, and a Trashion/Upcycle Fashion Show, in addition to educational exhibits and hands-on learning opportunities about consumption alternatives, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.

The event will be held at the Salem Convention Center on May 21, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.


The Exhibition and Marketplace opportunities are open for both emerging and experienced artists, innovators, and makers who have an interest repurposing waste materials into artwork, functional items and innovations.


  • Emerging or experienced youth and adult artists living in Oregon are eligible to apply.
  • Entries must be original art works and/or innovations completed within the past 2 years.
  • Prior exhibit history not required.


  • All accepted artwork/innovations will be comprised of at least 75% recycled materials.
  • 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional artwork will be accepted. Size limitations may apply.
  • Artists, innovators, and makers have the opportunity to also be vendors. (See below)


An awards ceremony to honor the participating artists, innovators, and makers will be scheduled during the event.

One Best of Show will be awarded in each category. Three Merit prizes will be awarded in each category. Prizes to be determined.

Notice Of Acceptance | Within two weeks of receipt of application

Upcycled artwork will be selected by a panel of jurors. Selection criteria include: technical proficiency with media, composition and design, and skillful visual communication of subject or concept. Selected artists will be notified of their acceptance to exhibit within two weeks of receipt of application (must include fees).

Applications for the Upcycle Oregon Marketplace will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We will notify applicants within two weeks of receiving a completed application (must include fees).


Upcycle Oregon Exhibition (art and innovation show)

$10 Application and jury fee for up to five pieces of art. Free for exhibitors. The Application Fee is waived for students who provide proof of student status by submitting a photo of their student identification.

Upcycle Oregon Marketplace

$50  Vendor Fee. Application must be received by May 15, 2016.

Fee includes $10 non-refundable jury fee. Vendors have option of participating in the art and innovation show at no extra cost.

Artists, Innovators, and Makers are responsible for insuring or self-insuring exhibited artwork and innovations. While Upcycle Oregon and venue hosts will exert all reasonable efforts to protect artwork and innovations from theft, vandalism or other harm, exhibiting Artists, Innovators, and Makers agree to assume responsibility for artwork.


Each Artist, Innovator, and Maker retains all copyrights to their own images and artworks. Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. By submission, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant Upcycle Oregon and Forge X Northwest the right to use their images for the purpose of promoting exhibitions, promoting programs, promoting the artist and subsequent display on the Forge X Northwest and Upcycle Oregon website of current and past exhibitions. Promotions and images may also be placed on social networks. Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation from Upcycle Oregon.
